Keisuke Matsuno [electric guitar] has assembled an instrumental trio with Justin Carroll [synthesizer] and Nathan Ellman-Bell [drums + cymbals] to jam a set of improvised and composed original music exploring the outer space of shimmering harmonious stars, reversed time glitches, loops of infinite black holes, grooves infused with dark energy, and melodic chaotic adorable little alien monsters.
9PM - Angela Morris/Erica Dicker Duo
Angela Morris - tenor saxophone
Erica Dicker - violin
If Brooklyn’s music circles draw a Venn diagram, saxophonist-composer Angela Morris thrives in the loop between avant-jazz and pop. Originally from Toronto, Canada and based in NYC, she has performed throughout North America and Europe. Her vocal group Rallidae released their new album, “Turned, and Was,” in November 2016 on the NYC-based label Gold Bolus Recordings; their debut “Paper Birds” was praised as “an exceptional debut by and exciting and innovative new band.” Morris composes and co-leads several groups, including a 17-piece big band – she is an alumna of the BMI Jazz Composer’s Workshop lead by Jim McNeely and studied composition with the Grammy-nominated jazz composer Darcy James Argue. She is a member of collaborative groups The Skellettes (with Nathaniel Morgan – alto saxophone, Jason Ajemian – bass, Booker Stardrum – drums), Pep Talk (with Nathaniel Morgan – alto saxophone, Owen Stewart-Roberson – guitar), and TMT Trio (with Cat Toren – piano, Anthony Taddeo – drums). In addition to her own projects, she has performed with Helado Negro, Jason Ajemian’s Folk-Lords, Myra Melford, and Erica Eso.
Erica Dicker works to span bridges between the worlds of traditional and experimental music performance. An active concert artist, Erica has appeared as concerto soloist, most recently with the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, and also writes and performs her own music, exploring the idiomatic modalities and textures of her instrument. Committed to creative collaboration with living composers and musical innovation in both the classical concert hall and nontraditional contexts, Erica is a founding member of the contemporary chamber music collective Till By Turning, an ensemble devoted to reinforcing the modern canon, championing new works, and linking creative educational programs to their repertoire. She is also violinist in Katherine Young’s Pretty Monsters, as well as Vaster Than Empires, an electro-acoustic collaboration with composer and sound artist Paul Schuette and percussionist Allen Otte. She has premiered works by many composers including solo works written for her by Olivia Block, Turkar Gasimzada, Ryan Ingebritsen and Katherine Young.
